History of The Door
Here’s a look at what you will experience at THE DOOR
THE DOOR was founded upon the scripture Rev. 3:8. Doors of opportunity were opened to a group of families to begin one of the first Charismatic churches here at the Lake of the Ozarks. We are a non-denominational church with vibrant praise and worship, great friendly people, and messages that are relevant for today. Our messages which are based on the word of God, are timely and speak to issues we all deal with in life. We truly believe that "you can do all things through Christ." We believe in the fullness of God and the entirety of His Word. Our goal and desire is to "equip the Saints for the work of the ministry." We believe that when doors are opened unto us we should walk through them. It is our belief that we are called outside the four walls of the church to reach the lost, sick, and hurting world.
Letter from the Pastor
I met Jesus at the very church I now pastor. In 1999 I was lost, hurting, and broken. I was watching my mom fight cancer. It was my senior year with only a few weeks left in school when my mom was told she didn't have long to live. I already had drug and alcohol problems which increased as I tried to numb my pain with any substance I could get my hands on. I was working on a night I had driven my fiance's car to work. Her key chain had a scripture on it. James 4:8, "Draw near to God and He will draw near to you." For several weeks I could not get the scripture out of my head. Finally, one Saturday night I told God, "If you're real I will go to church, I will draw near – show me you're real!" My heart still jumps when I think back to that morning when Pastor Jerry said, "Turn with me in your bibles today to James 4:8." The bible I had that morning had 1,153 pages in it. As I turned page to page in that bible looking to see how many verses each page contained (30-40) I knew God Himself had spoken to me through Pastor Jerry. That morning I received Jesus as Lord and Savior of my life. After service, I told the pastor that his message was just for me. He told me I had to look at his notes because that scripture wasn't even in his notes. The Lord told him to turn there when he got up to preach that morning. Fast forward 19 years (marriage, bible college, and three kids later) I received the privilege of serving The Door as lead pastor, having served under Pastor Jerry for 16 of those 19 years. I could not write this without saying, "Thank you, Pastor Jerry, for imparting to me your love for Jesus and His church." After many years running from being a pastor myself, I now find nothing more fulfilling than serving the body of Christ as pastor. It's my heart not only to see people come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ (Rom 10:13-14) but also to equip saints for the work of the ministry. (Eph 4:11-13)
Cheerfully in Christ,
Pastor Thom Jones
